dust and scorpions

The desert is calling me, I miss the the tumble weeds and wild horses, I miss my family.
growing up in Nevada was magical, we spent hours in the fields catching horny toads and caterpillars and it always seemed like my family was outside.  if we were not at the lake (Tahoe), we were camping in the mountains, if we weren't camping, my mom and aunts were cooking and we were always together. we were lucky kids!
don't get me wrong; i love my home in the beautiful NW, but my heart is still firmly planted in Nevada.

next time i go home, I'm shipping some tumble weeds to Portland!

it's getting harder and harder to see wild horses, but when you do it's really magical!

Northern Nevada is really special because you have the extreme high desert in the valley and the lush and piny landscape in the mountains

and of course there's the lake...

If you have the chance to visit this magical place, i highly recomend it!
as for me, I'll be enjoying some high desert snow in november and i can't wait.....

awesome!

new winter boot! forget about eating for the next couple weeks, I need these!

thrift store heaven {part 2}

I found this gorgeous vintage prom/wedding dress with some really cute detail, I love the flower!

I like it when everything is organized by color, and not size

OK, I do NOT condone the making or wearing of fur EVER! but when it's vintage i feel ok about photographing it, especially when it's oh so cute and kinda mad men-ish

and what would any trip to the thrift store be without looking at  records!

flocked wallpapper

this is something I really want in my life (badly) but it's just too expensive to put up in an apartment that I'm not going to live in forever (hopefully). I'm thinking about making a headboard for my bed, something i can take with me when i move, I was even thinking about making my own paper and I found this mini flocking gun that you can get here and it's pretty inexpensive.

mil-rocky thrift store heaven {part 1}

drew and  I went out to milwaukee with rita for some thrift shopping, we went to my favorite store ever! (red white and blue) this place is amazing! I never leave empty handed, in fact i usually have to put stuff back.
if your lucky enough to get there before the antique dealers and super hipsters pick through everything, you can score some serious shit! here is some of the fun stuff i found...

         the first thing i do in any thrift store is hit up the housewares

and I always! look for Pyrex!

OK I love bowls (it's a problem)

anything that looks grandmotherly, I will love it.

especially textiles!

we also found these awesome ships, and a tiny sewing machine

I really wanted that sewing machine, but I already have two so i put it back....maybe it will be there tomorrow.

"ladies" lunch

I had a ladies lunch at my house a couple weeks ago and rita brought her lovely mother, who just so happens to read tarot cards. some of us got readings and it was so awesome! i won't go into detail about it (personal) but my reading was very inspiring and insightful, I always love it when they come out  perfect or maybe it's just that you want to believe it's perfect, in any case i need to put some of this useful information to use ASAP! in the mean time here are some pictures of our lunch, by the way i made quiche for the first time and it turned out so good, and it was surprisingly easy! thanks for the recipe mom!

reve hates having her picture taken
